I was going through the news at Bay News 9 yesterday and saw an article about Linda Lombard a Sarasota resident by the name of Betty Lou whose “career is starting to boom again” at the age of 83 years old. I did a quick Google Search of her and found that she was in Life Magazine and quite a beautiful woman. Actually she still is, she doesn’t look like the typical 83 year old.

Now I’m not much of an “old movie buff” but I will say I really enjoyed this one.

Texas, Brooklyn and Heaven is a movie filmed in 1948 and has a great cast of characters. It is definitely a movie worth watching. It stars Guy Madison (I think he’s one of those guys that is pseudo referenced in the Flintstones when Betty and Wilma go crazy for a film stars – you know what I’m talking about) , James Dunn and Diana Lynn not to mention the “wicked witch of the west” Margaret Hamilton.

As “earther a reviewer” said “A journalist sets out for Manhattan to conquer Broadway. Along the way he meets a girl, and from then on it’s pretty much 1930s cliche. Girl fixes car, boy is mistaken for bank robber, girl finds riding stable in Brooklyn, boy finds Damon Runyon at his hotel bar, and you can guess the rest. The riding academy was wonderful, the writing was witty, and the movie moves along nicely with lots of characters and a good deal of incident.

No, this isn’t a lost gem, but it’s a great work out movie or iPod travel movie. Unlike others of this ilk, this one holds together and entertains through the end.”

Electronic Technology Risks – GPS, Cellphone – Theft

This gives us something to think about with all our new electronic technology.

GPS
A couple of weeks ago a friend told me that someone she knew had their car broken into while they were at a football match. Their car was parked on the green which was adjacent to the football stadium and specially allotted to football fans. Things stolen from the car included a garage door remote control, some money and a GPS which had been prominently mounted on the dashboard.

When the victims got home, they found that their house had been ransacked and just about everything worth anything had been stolen.

The thieves had used the GPS to guide them to the house. They then used the garage remote control to open the garage door and gain entry to the house. The thieves knew the owners were at the football game, they knew what time the game was scheduled to finish and so they knew how much time they had to clean up the house.
It would appear that they had brought a truck to empty the house of its contents.

MOBILE PHONE I never thought of this…

This lady has now changed her habit of how she lists her names on her mobile phone after her handbag was stolen. Her handbag, which contained her cell phone, credit card, wallet…etc…was stolen. 20 minutes later when she called her hubby, from a pay phone telling him what had happened, hubby says ‘I received your text asking about our Pin number and I’ve replied a little while ago.’ When they rushed down to the bank, the bank staff told them all the money was already withdrawn. The thief had actually used the stolen cell phone to text ‘hubby’ in the contact list and got hold of the pin number. Within 20 minutes he had withdrawn all the money from their bank account.

Moral of the lesson:

Do not disclose the relationship between you and the people in your contact list. Avoid using names like Home, Honey, Hubby, Sweetheart, Dad, Mom, etc…. And very importantly, when sensitive info is being asked through texts, CONFIRM by calling back. Also, when you’re being text by friends or family to meet them somewhere, be sure to call back to confirm that the message came from them. If you don’t reach them, be very careful about going places to meet ‘family and friends’ who text you.

Let everyone you know be aware of this NEW scheme – I am NOT sure if it is true or not as I received this info from an e-mail however, it makes sense that it could very well be a way to carjack someone.

Remember Lock your car as soon as you get into the vehicle and ALWAYS be aware of your surroundings – Stay Safe !

Salma Hayek Breastfeeding

OK by now I’m sure everyone has seen Salma Hayek Breastfeeding a baby who needs some nourishment. If not here is the link.

Breast feeding your child is the best thing a woman can do, breast feeding someone else’s child is a dying custom with the risk of Aids being contracted from breast milk. That chance is very slight none the less. Way to go Salma! What a great story about her grandmother too !
